Considering the thing I like least about my M5 is the goddamn tiny gas tank I think they should offer this as a service during road trips.

Anyway, the new BMW teaser video looks pretty neat.

This is what the people of Oregon are worried about.

I still like the Arciero Miller Racing refuel rig. In part because it was actually used in competition, and because it forced the sanctioning body to add a rule saying “all service performed on competition vehicles must be done while the vehicle is stationary.” That’s a ridiculous rule to actually have to add to a series rulebook.

On my E60 it’s 18.5 gallons. As the V10 is a bit on the thirsty side you’re looking at a refill every 200 miles or so. On a freeway maybe 230-250. Or on most racetracks I need to refill about every 25-30 laps. This isn’t me running the tank dry — I always keep a few gallons in there as the owners manual basically warns you to not run the car out of gas lest 10 cylinders suddenly start popping off erratically at great expense. The dash is quite insistent as well. Once it things you’re down to a 50-60 mile range it gives a loud bong that scares the shit out of you and then under 30 miles left it won’t show you anything but your remaining range.

I had to tailgate a semi down a long stretch of AZ freeway below the speed limit once as I apparently missed the sign saying “no gas next 60 miles” and really didn’t think I was going to make it. Finally reached a station indicating something like 6 miles of range left. This was the day after reading the owners manual in my hotel the night before — I was driving the car home from purchasing it on the other side of the country. It gave me a pretty good scare.

Damn that’s thirsty. My 528i manages almost 600 highway miles out the same size tank. And that’s without an overdrive gear.
